May 2009 - I went to Jack Fry's by myself right after the Kentucky Derby. It was fully booked but there was room at the bar for me which was very fortunate. There were a lot of people there who were at the Derby earlier in the day and it was fun to people watch. This was a very happening restaurant although not that big. I was served by the bartender and she was excellent. I liked the food but the bartender really made my visit enjoyable. I had the Dates (wrapped in bacon!) $14 to start and they were delicious. A great mix of sweetness from the dates and bacon taste. The couple sitting beside me mentioned that the dates looked good and that the scallops they had were some of the best. I followed that appetizer with the NY strip $38. The steak was great (covered in blue cheese... which I love). The sides that came with the steak (two heavily battered onion rings and two small potatoes) weren't really good at all and I could have done without them. Not really worth the price. I had the souffle cake for dessert and it was a good end to a great meal. I enjoyed Jack Fry's a lot but I think my view may be skewed because I was just really happy with the excellent service... some of the best I've ever received.
